Located at The District in Tustin, CA,  JT Schmid’s is a California casual restaurant that takes great pride in offering a delicious selection of handcrafted microbrews, steaks, pasta, pizza and salads. My wife and I were invited to attended a media night to try out their new delicious fall menu and they didn’t disappoint.

The word of the night was “size.” We found their meals to be big in physical size as well as taste. As soon as we we walked in the door, we started our experience with their amazing chicken wing appetizer, mac n cheese, and salad. I loved the chicken wings so much that I almost filled myself up before the main course came out!

Although it was hard to move on from the chicken wings, I did move on to taste their ceviche tacos with delicious citrus-marinated shrimp that are made from scratch everyday.

Don’t tell your Mom! Pictured on the left, you will see their IMG_1288cleverly titled Not Your Mom’s Deviled Eggs which are made of fried egg whites, jalapeño & bacon yoke with a Siracha aiole. Under it you will see the Chilean Sea Bass which is marinated in a sweet ginger soy & served with fresh sautéed spinach & steamed rice. Both were very good!

Next up was the big A – I told you it was all about size! The BIG & AWESOME BLTA! This consisted of toasted rye bread, IMG_1291applewood bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, mayo, and fried eggs. I’m a huge bacon fan and this was one of the best I have ever had. The golden fries for the side made the perfect pairing.

JT Schmid’s has their own brewery where brewing handcrafted beers on site is their specialty.IMG_1293 I’m not a huge fan of beer and I usually just like light beer, but I loved their dumb blonde ale. This light bodied ale is golden in color with a smooth crisp finish. It was so good I ordered 2! If you want a dark or medium beer, they have multiple brews for you to pick from as well.

The star of the night was the giant burger. Yup, it’s still all about the size. The burger can be up to 8 pounds and is made to feed a table of multiple people. We were told that legend has it there has only been one person who has been able to finish eating the whole thing by themselves. The burger was delicious, but even so, I can’t see how it is humanly possible for any one person (or beast) to finish the whole burger!

My wife and I thought their prices were very good considering how big the portions were – for example, the giant BLT is only $15 dollars. We could of easily shared one meal and both been stuffed.

Overall we felt their food was great and we enjoyed the casual bar type atmosphere. They have various TV’s throughout the restaurant that show every NFL and college football game. This is the perfect place for you and your friends to get together to split some food, wash down it down with brewed beer, and cheer on your favorite team. If you find yourself looking for a place to eat on casual date before a movie, JT Schmid’s is the perfect place for that as well.
