Dark Harbor Halloween experience returns with new spirits, mazes, freaks and frights inspired by the real-life hauntings on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Got to attend the Media/VIP night to check it out.
The Queen Mary is located in the Port of Long Beach and features a rich history of Art Deco going back to her maiden voyage back in 1936. She was considered the grandest ocean liner ever built at the time and people come from all around the world come to visit her. One of the many tours given to guest around the year is the ghost tour of the ship. Every Halloween time, the ship is transformed into Dark Harbor a very unique and spooky Halloween experience. Where other theme parks try and set up a spooky atmosphere, Dark Harbor has history on its side. Queen Mary has been voted one of the most haunted places in the world. Walking through it alone is already a scary experience. Add mazes, people jumping out at you and you got one of the best halloween experiences in Southern California. Their haunted mazes take you through the ships belly boiling and pool of the old ship.
When I walked through the maze I encountered voodoo spirits, tombstone monsters, and witnessed horrifying sacrifices on the murky bayou. I really loved the sets they designed for this maze. There is a also a new freakshow experience where you can enjoy haunted theme drinks and enjoy performances. Make sure to catch Darin Malfi in the freak show area. He is a buddy I went to high school with and you can staple money to him as you can tell in the picture. Another random surprise was that they have a swing ride, which was once owned by Michael Jackson at his Neverland Ranch. So you can get your thriller on as you swing around and around. Dark Harbor offers harrowing entertainment and special ghoulish events throughout the season. A show on the main stage welcomes the Queen Mary spirits showing off their terrifying talents with magic acts, circus performances, monster dance parties, fire breathing, live bands, DJs and the Dark Harbor Sliders performing the Slider Olympics down slider alley.
Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 are the only evenings that Dark Harbor guests are invited to wear costumes. On Halloween night, Oct. 31, the iconic “Jewels” will return to Dark Harbor for a special costume contest and drag show. Nov. 1 welcomes the annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration with DJ Mikey O spinning all night long.
Dark Harbor will be open Oct. 15-18, 22-25, and Oct. 28-Nov. 1 from 7 p.m.-12 a.m. Thurs. and Sun. nights and 7 p.m.-1 a.m. Fri.-Sat. evenings. Tickets start at just $20 online. For more information, or to purchase tickets visit www.queenmary.com/events/dark-harbor.
